A first look into the state of financed emissions in Asia Pacific

The Asia Pacific financed emissions benchmarking study is the first such study on how financial institutions (FIs) across the region measure, manage and report their financed emissions. It draws on the 2024 sustainability reports of selected banks, insurers, asset managers and asset owners across Asia Pacific markets, covering countries such as Australia, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, and Singapore.

Financed emissions provide a quantified view of the potential climate-related impacts and risks embedded in lending and investment portfolios, showing where institutions are most exposed and where opportunities exist to decarbonise high-emitting sectors and invest in lower-carbon technologies and business models.

The benchmarking study provides a structured comparison across four dimensions:

• Target setting and decarbonisation strategy

These insights help Asia Pacific FIs understand how their practices compare with peers and global trends, and identify opportunities to strengthen financed emissions management and disclosure—building greater credibility in how climate-related risks and transition progress are measured and communicated.
