Growth accelerates as localisation, electrification and new entrants reshape the market

The ASEAN‑6 automotive market demonstrated resilient growth in the first half of 2026, with total industry volume (TIV) rising 11% compared to 1H2025, led by Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand. This 6th market snapshot also expands its focus to include India, a larger and faster-growing automotive market, with TIV increasing 19% in 1H2026.

Since our 5th market snapshot, competitive dynamics have continued to shift. Chinese OEMs have expanded their ASEAN‑6 market share to approximately 15.7% in 1H2026, up from around 11% in 2025, while traditional market leaders face mounting pressure.

Electrification has entered a new phase, with xEV penetration reaching 32% across ASEAN‑6 in 1H2026, though adoption trajectories continue to vary significantly by market.

As value pools continue to evolve, leading players are responding through operational excellence, business model redesign and strategic alliances. As growth, electrification and competitive intensity vary significantly across markets, companies will need increasingly targeted strategies to capture value in the region's evolving automotive landscape.
