PwC expands its cover as a CDP accredited solutions provider in Southeast Asia

KUALA LUMPUR, 5 October 2023 – Today PwC announced that it has expanded its accreditation by CDP to a network of solutions providers throughout six PwC Southeast Asia territories.

As part of its commitment to assisting businesses in implementing meaningful sustainability practices, PwC will expand its partnership to the broader Asia Pacific region starting with Southeast Asia in October 2023, becoming an accredited partner as a gold climate change consultancy and Science-based Targets (SBT) solutions provider covering Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. PwC is a CDP-accredited gold climate change consultancy and SBT solutions provider in Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR, and Taiwan, as well as a silver climate change consultancy and verification solutions provider in the United States.

The partnership was announced at a Climate Disclosure event in Kuala Lumpur, attended by a group of Malaysian corporate sustainability decision-makers and environmental, social and governance (ESG) stakeholders. The event featured Lit Ping Low, Asia Pacific Sustainability, Climate Change Partner, PwC Hong Kong, and Andrew Chan, Asia Pacific Sustainability, Strategy & Transformation Partner, PwC Malaysia, as speakers.

This impact-driven partnership aims to promote disclosure in Southeast Asia where CDP recorded a growing momentum of environmental disclosure and action. According to the Nature Incorporated report released by CDP earlier this year, in 2022, there was a 47% increase in disclosures through CDP across the region, where 482 companies across Southeast Asia reported climate data, 123 disclosed on water and 35 for forests.

CDP is a global non-profit organisation which runs the world’s environmental disclosure system used by over 18,700 companies and 1,100 cities, states and regions globally, and backed by investors with assets of US$137 trillion. Through its questionnaires, guidance and scoring methodology, CDP provides a guide towards best practices in environmental management for companies. The CDP roadmap provides a snapshot of actions companies are taking at each stage of this journey towards environmental excellence.

CDP accredits environmental service providers who can help support companies in all aspects of their environmental journey, from climate-related scenario analysis to designing a strategy for a water-secure and deforestation-free future.

Accredited providers help companies disclosing through CDP identify the gaps in their environmental performance, address these gaps and identify further opportunities for leadership in the corporate environmental action space. PwC with its expertise and experience as a leading sustainability advisor in the market can help organisations plan, source, deliver, finance and measure the wider impact of products and services. This is critical in supporting organisations to future-proof their businesses by making them more resilient, agile and sustainable.

Ivy Kuo, PwC Asia Pacific Sustainability Leader, Partner, PwC China, said:

“As a Gold Partner in CDP's climate change consultancy and Science-based Targets initiative in China, PwC has delivered several successful cases in helping clients improve their carbon disclosures and transition to low-carbon business models. Building on this experience, we are delighted to expand our collaboration with CDP to the broader Asia Pacific region, starting with Southeast Asia.

Carbon disclosure is fundamental to building a carbon-neutral future. Our goal is to help organisations in Southeast Asia not only improve their carbon disclosure but translate this directly into improved ESG performance through the acceleration of their low-carbon strategies.”

Lit Ping Low, Asia Pacific Sustainability, Climate Change, Partner, PwC Hong Kong, said:

“We are pleased to become an Accredited Solutions Provider for CDP in Southeast Asia, extending on our long and wide-ranging collaborations with CDP over the years. As leaders in sustainability, PwC and CDP can help businesses with their climate initiatives by supporting best practices in disclosure, risk management and target setting. PwC brings deep experience and knowledge in CDP-related services including CDP disclosure, SBTi target setting, TCFD disclosure and strategy setting. We look forward to building a more sustainable Asia Pacific region in collaboration with CDP.”

Donald Chan, Managing Director, Asia Pacific, CDP commented:

“We are delighted to see that PwC has now been accredited as a gold climate change consultancy and SBT solutions provider covering six major economies in Southeast Asia. These economies are witnessing the fastest growth in the world and will play a pivotal role in the future of our planet. Underpinned by the highly valued expertise of PwC in supporting companies on their environmental stewardship journey, I have no doubt that this impact-driven partnership will help promote much-needed environmental disclosure practices in Southeast Asia.

And with more corporates in Southeast Asia disclosing and demonstrating their environmental management and climate ambition, CDP looks forward to seeing Southeast Asia leading the way in the transition to a net-zero, nature positive and equitable world.”
