The Awards encourage Malaysian businesses and the public to recognise that Corporate Responsibility (CR) is a critical part of a company’s strategy and should be on the management agenda to build sustainable businesses. The Awards recognise and honour companies which demonstrate outstanding and leading CR practices that go beyond community and philanthropic activities.
Y Bhg Tan Sri Zarinah Anwar, Chairman of Securities Commission (SC) Malaysia and also Chief Judge of the Awards, announced the Awards at a ceremony at the SC. Also present were Group Managing Director and CEO of Star Publications (Malaysia) Bhd, Datin Linda Ngiam, and Dato’ Johan Raslan, Chairman of ICR Malaysia.
As in previous years, awards will be given out in four categories, i.e. Marketplace, Workplace, Environment and Community, and for two market capitalisation segments (RM1 billion and above, and below RM1 billion).
Public listed companies are eligible to participate via an online questionnaire. The deadline for submissions is 1 October 2010. Initial assessments of companies’ responses to the questionnaire will be performed by an independent third-party organisation, CSR Asia. To enhance the screening process this year, the selection criteria will reward any third-party assurance, audit processes or external stakeholder engagement which the leading companies have in place.
The final selection of winners is decided by a distinguished panel of judges, comprising:
The Awards are supported by the SC and Bursa Malaysia. The working partners are PricewaterhouseCoopers and Securities Industry Development Corporation (SIDC).
With these Awards, the organisers hope that Malaysian companies will assimilate CR values and sustainable thinking in their business strategies and goals, so as to raise the business standards of companies for the benefit of all stakeholders.
The winners are expected to be announced early 2011. For more information about the Awards, log on to www.thestar.com.my/starbizicrm/
