Project description:
Green Technology Financing Conference report

Challenge:
The client wanted us to develop a Green Technology Financing Report for a closed door conference that was jointly organised with the local financial regulator and attended by green industry players, bankers and green technology specialists.

Solution:
Our team prepared a comprehensive report documenting the overview of green technology sectors in Malaysia and four other countries. We did thorough research on the size of the green technology market, trend analysis, key players, growth simulation programmes and high-level analysis of financial institutions supporting the green industry.

Results:
The final report incorporated our research on other countries, PwC’s notes and observations from the conference, as well as feedback from the client and its appointed green technology specialist.

Governmental Ministry

Project description:
Study on green technology investments in the Malaysian manufacturing sector

Challenge:
The client wished to understand the landscape of current incentives for the uptake of green technology in the local manufacturing sector as well as what needed to be done to attract green technology investments in the sector.

Solution:
Our team engaged key stakeholders from various private and public organisations for interviews and focus group discussions. An electronic survey that targeted up to one thousand companies within the manufacturing sector was deployed. The findings were consolidated and used as an input in developing the recommendations for the final report.

Results:
The final report consists of immediate and long-term recommendations that comprise of enablers, policies, incentives and frameworks that can be used by the client to promote green technology investments in Malaysia's manufacturing sector.

Forest Management Company

Project description:
Tax planning and application for tax incentives

Challenge:
The client wanted tax advice as well as the structuring of a foreign management company.

Solution:
The work involved assessing the tax efficiency of the arrangements and structure and coming up with alternative more tax efficient structures for the project.

Results:
We provided the tax advice and structuring for a foreign management company involved in the management of forest and wildlife as well as the set up of a Charitable Trust funded by the revenue from the trading of carbon credits.

Leading Malaysian Telco Operator

Project description:
Tax incentive evaluation and application

Challenge:
The client needed assistance in evaluating which green building tax incentives were most beneficial to them and also wished to be supported in the subsequent application process.

Solution:
We conducted an analysis to evaluate the preferred tax incentive (GBI incentive vs. energy efficient incentive) as well as assisted the client in the incentive application process.

Results:
The advice we provided helped ensure that the client was maximising the local tax benefits available when building according to 'green' standards.
