MAS remains committed to safeguarding the welfare of the next of kin of Flight MH17

It has been two years since the downing of Flight MH17 on 17 July 2014. During this difficult time, Malaysian Airline System Berhad (Administrator Appointed) (MAS), and its staff, pay tribute to the memory of the passengers and crew members who lost their lives in the tragedy.

In the intervening two years since the MH17 tragedy, MAS has been committed to meeting the varying needs and expectations and seeing to the welfare of the next of kin.  We wish to reiterate our continuing support and assistance to the families of those on board MH17.

Our Family Support Centre - set up to meet the needs of the bereaved families worldwide - continues to provide information, updates and support needed by the next of kin. In addition to the Family Support Centre, MAS has set up a special dedicated team, the Post Accident Office (PAO), which reports to the Administrator, to keep track of all matters associated with the MH17 and MH370 incidents.  The PAO oversees and coordinates claims and compensation requested by next of kin, and acts as the focal point of contact for government agencies, authorities and third parties connected to the incidents.

Dato’ Mohammad Faiz Azmi, Administrator of MAS said: "It is the priority of MAS that all next of kin of MH17 and MH370 are fully compensated in accordance with the principles set out under applicable International Conventions and local laws. To date, all next of kin of passengers and crew on board MH17 who have pursued claims of compensation, have either had their claims settled or are in the process of being settled, or have otherwise filed court claims in various jurisdictions".

On Monday, 18 July 2016, a private remembrance ceremony was held at the Malaysia Airlines office at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), honouring the memory of our crew who lost their lives during the MH17 tragedy.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with the families of the crew and passengers of MH17.
