Be yourself. Be different.
The Channel Islands Pride event alternates between Jersey and Guernsey annually, and in September 2020 it was Guernsey's turn.
Pride aims to create better acceptance and a greater understanding of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ+) issues as well as highlighting the need to continue moving forward on the road to equality for LGBTQ+ people. It began as a result of the Stonewall riots in 1969, which marked the start of the gay rights movement for many people around the world. Today, Pride is an opportunity to join the LBGTQ+ community to celebrate how far LGBTQ+ rights have come, even if in some places there is still work to be done.
In what was thought to be the only official Pride celebrations taking place across the UK and indeed Europe this year, Liberate Guernsey, the Town Church in St Peter Port and PwC Channel Islands collaborated on shining some extra light on CI Pride 2020. Shortly after dusk, for three consecutive nights in mid September, Pride colours were projected onto the Town Church until 11pm, which is a massive step in demonstrating how Guernsey is serious about leading on equality.
We were really delighted to offer our support to CI Pride in the form of sponsorship of the Town Church illuminations, as well as the colourful painting of the Market Square steps. It was a truly spectacular event as this video highlights.
‘We want everyone at PwC to feel they can bring their whole self to work and realise their own unique potential. To be themselves. To be different. That's why we’re proud to support the Channel Islands Pride event, celebrating the value and diversity our LGBTQ+ colleagues and friends bring to our global network and to our local community.’
