PwC were delighted to sponsor the Biodiversity day at Sustainable Finance Week hosted by WE ARE GUERNSEY.
We started the day with hosting a a breakfast viewing of “Save Our Wild Isles: Banking on a Wilder Tomorrow”. The film beautifully set out the case and the key role the finance sector has to play in protecting and enhancing biodiversity. This can be no net zero economy without nature. PwC research also shows us that over half the world's GDP is highly or moderately dependent on nature, so urgent action is needed.
We then held a panel session, followed by a Q&A with PwC’s Sustainability specialists. We were especially delighted to bring PwC nature finance specialist James King to Guernsey. James was an author of a new report on how the UK can become a leading nature finance hub, and is also a Panelist for the afternoon’s plenary conference discussion.
Together with our local ESG and Sustainability leadership team Amy Pickering and Ali Cambray, we unpicked what this means for the finance sector in the Channel Islands and what practical steps business, and those charged with governance, should be taking to manage risk, harness opportunities, and ensure a nature-positive business strategy.
James is a Senior Manager in PwC UK’s Sustainability practice, specialising in nature finance & policy. His work focuses on developing innovative solutions to scale private finance for nature, through collaboration with the public sector and financial services industry. Most recently, he worked with the City of London Corporation on a forthcoming report examining what an innovative and world-leading nature finance sector would look like and to assess the readiness of the UK to be a global leader in natural capital finance.
