PwC Thailand reports one case of COVID-19

The infected staff member has no client-facing role; the Thailand firm to continue applying its work from home policy

BANGKOK, 7 January 2021 – PwC Thailand reported on 6 January that an employee working in its practice support function on the 14th floor of Bangkok City Tower had contracted COVID-19.

The infected employee was believed to have developed flu-like symptoms on 5 January and tested positive for COVID-19 in the evening of 6 January.

An investigation that traced the employee’s movements over a two-week period prior to the confirmed test result revealed the person visited relatives in Ubon Ratchathani province during the New Year period (31 December).

In light of this, PwC Thailand would like to notify the public that the infected employee doesn’t have a client-facing role. Upon becoming aware of the confirmed case, PwC Thailand immediately self-quarantined those who were in direct contact with the infected employee for 14 days. This group of people is deemed high risk, and will be reported to the authorities as a group that requires close monitoring. Presently, there are no further reports of additional confirmed cases.

PwC Thailand has thoroughly carried out deep cleaning and disinfection of the 14th floor and all other floors of the building to prevent and control the spread of the virus. This includes assisting public health authorities to enter the PwC office to conduct an investigation and advise on infection control measures.

PwC Thailand implemented a work from home (WFH) policy in the wake of the initial outbreak, and recently updated in late 2020, to minimise the risk of virus exposure. During the New Year period until now, only 10-15% of essential employees enter the office – and only for a limited amount of time each day.

Nevertheless, PwC Thailand has taken strict preventive anti-epidemic measures including contact tracing, social distancing and promoting the use of virtual meetings.

PwC Thailand has Business Continuity Planning (BCP) with a dedicated team to reassure clients, suppliers, employees and other stakeholders that our business runs effectively.

The safety and well-being of our clients, employees, suppliers, community and society at large is our top priority. We continue to closely monitor the situation of the recent COVID-19 outbreak and will implement stringent measures as necessary to mitigate the risk of infection.
