Read about how small acts of kindness can go a long way for Jiarong Li, our Network Information Security Senior Associate.

What inspired you to volunteer with the PwC Singapore Foundation?

Even though Singapore is a developed country, I was really surprised to see how many people still struggle to meet basic needs. Watching the “Food from the Heart” video made me realize just how much basic support means to them. I’ve always wanted to help out where I can, and volunteering with the PwC Singapore Foundation gave me a chance to do just that—to make a small difference and hopefully brighten someone’s day.

What personal values or experiences drive your commitment to volunteering?

I believe even small acts of kindness can bring happiness and make a positive impact. Seeing how grateful people are when they receive help really motivates me to keep giving back. Volunteering fits with my values around caring for others and wanting to contribute to the community.

What did you do to prepare for the volunteer activities?

I would like to clear my schedule a few weeks ahead and let my team know about my plans. Luckily, my team is very supportive, which makes it easier to balance work and volunteering. Being prepared means I can really focus on the volunteering activities.

What is something that surprised you – either about yourself or the people you volunteered with?

I’m always amazed at how well volunteers work together, even when we don’t know each other before. We quickly find ways to cooperate and support one another without much talking, which makes the whole experience smooth and enjoyable. That spirit of teamwork and encouragement really stands out to me.

What skills have you developed or enhanced through your work as a volunteer?

Volunteering has definitely helped me get better at communicating and working with different kinds of people. It’s taught me to be flexible and to think on my feet, especially when things don’t go exactly as planned. These skills have been useful not just in volunteering, but in my day-to-day work too.

How would you continue your volunteering journey?

I want to try out different volunteer activities so I can learn more and help in new ways. I’m committed to making volunteering a regular part of my life because it’s rewarding and meaningful. I also hope to keep growing through these experiences.

How do you motivate others to get involved in volunteering activities?

I like to share my own experiences and how fulfilling volunteering has been for me. I also point out that it’s a great way to bond with teammates outside of work. Inviting friends or colleagues along often helps make it a fun and positive experience for everyone.
