Antrusha Leow’s journey from a liberal arts graduate to a thriving associate in sustainability consulting at PwC is a testament to the power of interdisciplinary knowledge in the professional world. For many, her background might have seemed like a mismatch for a role in a professional services firm, but for Antrusha, it was a natural progression that allowed her to merge her passion with her career.
Graduating from Yale-NUS in 2023 with a degree in PPE (Philosophy, Politics and Economics), Antrusha was captivated by complex topics like uneven development and sustainability. “My education equipped me with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, such as data visualisation and quantitative reasoning”, she reflects. These tools became the foundation upon which she would build her career.
In just one year with PwC, Antrusha has already made significant strides, with several sustainability consulting projects under her belt. Among her experiences, one stands out as particularly impactful: a mission with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the Maldives. “The trip was transformative,” Antrusha recalls. “Meeting with key decision-makers, from senior government officials to representatives from local financial institutions and international development agencies, was eye-opening. It allowed me to contribute to initiatives aimed at scaling climate finance to small island developing states, directly addressing the climate needs of the communities.”
Antrusha’s success isn’t just a result of her academic background and professional drive; it’s also deeply connected to the culture at PwC. When asked to describe the people she works with, Antrusha quickly chose two words: warm and inviting. Collaboration and knowledge sharing are at the heart of her experience, making the workplace not just a space for professional growth but also a community where she feels supported. Monthly outings and post-client meeting meals are more than just events – they are opportunities for team bonding that Antrusha looks forward to.
“Your CV is important, but don’t forget to network. You never know where these connections can lead you.”
Her advice to graduating students reflects the blend of academic rigor and professional wisdom she has gained along the way. “Your CV is important, but don’t forget to network,” she advises. Antrusha believes that events like PwC’s upcoming Careers Discovery Day can open doors you might not expect. “You never know where these connections can lead you,” she adds, emphasizing the importance of being proactive in building a professional network.
Antrusha’s journey is a powerful reminder that diverse academic backgrounds can be a strength in the professional world, especially when paired with the right opportunities and a supportive environment.
