PricewaterhouseCoopers Information Technology Services SIA (PwC ITS) in collaboration with PwC Hungary have created a unique cybersecurity escape room and are inviting everyone to give it a try at the Cyber Chess 2019 conference held on 2–3 October.
The players are allowed 20 minutes to escape a locked room after finding a number of hidden clues related to cybersecurity risks. The players have to piece together the puzzle of clues and find a code to unlock the escape door.
Edgars Sacs, a member of PwC ITS board, says this escape room is not only an entertaining event but also highlights daily cybersecurity risks and ways of eliminating them:
“We find that the human is one of the biggest vulnerabilities in terms of security. Regardless of how much a company invests in security tools, platforms and infrastructures, an untrained employee will create the biggest threat to information security. In about 78% of our social engineering tests, we were able to enter the client’s infrastructure through targeted employees. To prevent this, employees should be educated on security matters not only theoretically but also practically.”
After attending the conference, companies will be able to apply for and try out this escape room at their offices to alert their staff to cybersecurity risks.
Studies of cybersecurity also demonstrate its growing significance. In PwC’s Baltic CEO survey carried out in spring 2019, 80% of Latvian CEOs said they find it important to integrate cybersecurity technologies in their company (and 90% of Estonian respondents said this). In “Consumer Intelligence Series: Protect.me”, another PwC study related to cybersecurity, 69% of consumers said that companies are vulnerable to cyberattacks.
Cyber Chess is a cybersecurity conference annually organised by CERT.LV and ISACA Latvia chapter and taking place on 2–3 October 2019 at the Radisson Blu Latvija Hotel in Riga.
