What work will I do in audit?

Work in Audit

In audit, we get to the heart of businesses providing decision makers with information they can trust and give investors confidence. In this evolving environment, you’ll get hands-on with investigative work where you’ll regularly speak with key contacts such as financial controllers or financial directors, checking and analysing data, and highlighting and questioning any inaccuracies.

As finance is the centre of every organisation, you’ll learn how different businesses operate as you review records and help to put together reports on controls and processes for areas including purchases and expenses, revenue and receivables, along with cash and investments.

You’ll do the same work as our first-year graduate recruits. As you’d expect from a business of this scale, the work can be intense at times - but you’ll have plenty of fun along the way, not forgetting competitive rewards for your hard work.

What skills do I need?

We want to hear from the most talented all-round students who qualify for Isle of Man worker status and who have excellent academic achievements, gaining at least a Grade C in Maths and English at GCSE, securing a minimum of 112 UCAS points (excluding General Studies), or a minimum of 32 International Baccalaureate points, and on track to securing a 2:1 in any degree discipline.

During the recruitment process we’re looking for people who demonstrate:

  • Flexibility - to handle changing priorities and workloads positively

  • Courage and integrity - you are always up for a challenge and do the right thing by clients and colleagues

  • Curiosity - to help you learn, share and innovate

  • Team working skills - to take on your fair share and work with others to get results

  • Commercial awareness - you are up to date with the latest business thinking and trends

  • Great communication skills - to listen, persuade and put your point across.

How do I apply?

Submit your application early

Applying is straightforward. We accept online applications only, so please do not send us your CV. We recruit on a rolling basis, so you can send us your application throughout the year but as we have limited spaces on our programme, we recommend that you submit your application form to us as soon as possible. We review applications as they are submitted.

Applications are open now and although there is no deadline, we only have a small number of roles available. We therefore advise applying early, but please be prepared for a short wait in processing your application at each stage of our process while we consider all applications.

If you are invited to attend an interview, be prepared

This will be competency-based interview so be ready to talk about your experiences, demonstrate your understanding of our business and show you have the attributes detailed in The PwC Professional. As well as attending an interview, you will also be required to sit an assessment test. These basic tests help us gain an understanding of your core skills and abilities, and will usually take the form of a numerical reasoning test in which we can identify specific strengths or areas for development. The results will then be analysed and factored into the decision-making process. Although the results are not definitive, we would encourage you to prepare in advance if for example you have not studied a maths-related degree or A-level.
