Established in 2014 and, with a primary focus on casualty lines of business, the company is a fast-growing company, now intending to underwrite a further diversified portfolio, focused on North American property treaty reinsurance, and specialty business.

Reporting to the Head of Bermuda Reinsurance, the Underwriter is responsible for day to day Underwriting of the Reinsurance book and achieving targeted portfolio composition. The post-holder will also play a key role in growing the property reinsurance portfolio, aligned to the growth of the MGA’s US commercial property program business.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the strategic underwriting and financial planning for inwards reinsurance and contribute to the establishment and implementation of best practices;
- Underwriting for the Reinsurance portfolio including the evaluation and presentation of submissions, analysing and interpreting exposures, determining coverage and contract language;
- Provide expertise and guidance in technical insurance matters, and, with oversight from the CUO, oversee the development and/or enhancement of new and/or existing products and market entries;
- Ensure products are competitive from a pricing and coverage standpoint and assure that products are in compliance with all insurance laws, regulations and Company strategic plans;
- Directly use risk modeling and pricing tools to analyze opportunities, building models where necessary; work with modelling for final pricing analysis;
- Originate, leverage, build and maintain broker and client relationships, in order to build the business;
- Prepare and issue quotes on an accurate and timely basis;
- Maintain strong working relationships with the MGA and Carrier;
- Ensure compliance with internal and external underwriting regulations, liaising as appropriate with external bodies such as brokers, clients, auditors and regulators as required.
Minimum Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 15-20 years’ industry experience within North American property treaty reinsurance markets as an underwriter or broker;
- Experience of Commercial QS, Cat, Risk, Risk XoL coverages, would be preferred;
- Demonstrable established relationships with Reinsurance clients and an established reinsurance broker market following;
- Proven success leveraging business skills to develop and attract new business, as well as expanding an existing portfolio;
- Excellent analytical and statistical skills , with a working knowledge of and ability to interpret the outputs of existing broker and vendor Cat Models;
- Advanced Knowledge of Excel, @Risk, Access. VBA skills, basic knowledge of Sql, and demonstrable use of complex DFA models would be advantageous.
