Our client is a Class C licensed reinsurer established in January 2025 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of a U.S.-based life and annuity business, supporting long-term capital efficiency, risk diversification, and strategic growth. The company’s inaugural transaction is a significant in-force quota-share reinsurance agreement totalling approximately USD 6bn in reserves, representing a mix of legacy indexed annuities (RILAs), pension risk transfer business, and simplified issue whole life policies.
Role Overview
We are seeking a technically strong and commercially minded actuary to join our reinsurance pricing team. You will play an important role in helping to structure transactions and shape the development of the company’s pricing framework. The team is responsible for structuring and pricing reinsurance transactions within the group’s lines of business, including life and annuity products.
You will provide thought leadership and lead the development of best-in-class pricing, modeling and analytical tool capabilities in line with Bermuda technical standards and group guidelines, and in collaboration with the group actuarial team. The role will also include supporting group projects, as required.
Essential Responsibilities
- Contribute to the design and execution of innovative reinsurance structures that align with the company’s strategic objectives.
- Support the design and/or enhancement of best-in-class pricing and modelling tools
- Review and challenge transaction documentation, ensuring appropriateness of demographic, economic and other pricing assumptions
- Assess impacts of collateral and cedant regulatory requirements on the deal model
- Conduct robust risk assessments of proposed transactions, ensuring alignment with the group’s risk appetite and governance framework
- Collaborate with investment and treasury teams to ensure key economic value drivers are accurately reflected.
- Develop pricing recommendations using actuarial principles and pricing models, including properly documenting pricing assumptions
- Develop material and present results of actuarial analysis to the company’s leadership, and Group oversight committees
- Participate in periodic pricing reviews and pricing audits
- Support business development efforts and internal client meetings
- Assist with the on-boarding of new business into the company’s business as usual processes, including handoff to balance sheet management and business planning teams
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators and reinsurers, to support deal execution and pricing integrity.
About You
- FSA, FIA or other equivalent actuarial designation;
- At least 5 years’ experience in life re/insurance, including experience in a similar pricing role, with ability to apply actuarial methods to develop reinsurance rating and pricing structures; experience pricing US life and annuity insurance products would be advantageous;
- Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Finance, Statistics, or related area;
- Proven financial reporting and modelling experience;
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, looking for efficient, automated solutions;
- Collaborative and approachable, with the ability to build strong relationships across functions and geographies;
- Highly accountable with a strong work ethic; committed to superior quality and service;
- Able to handle multiple and changing priorities to deliver results;
- Programming knowledge and data processing abilities (using tools such as Power BI and languages such as VBA, SQL), with advanced knowledge of databases and analytic tools;
- Knowledge of the Bermuda regulatory environment or international reinsurance markets.
