Head of Risk & Compliance

Our client is a licensed Class 3B reinsurer based in Bermuda that reinsures U.S property and casualty exposures, established in 2014 and led by a management team with extensive experience in the reinsurance sector.

Due to continued, profitable business growth, the company is looking to recruit a Head of Risk & Compliance, who will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer. Core responsibilities in the new role will include the following:

  • Supporting the continued advancement and embedding of the company’s enterprise risk management framework, including the design and implementation of risk management practices and tools.
  •  Supporting the identification of key risk areas within the organisation, creating and monitoring key risk and control parameters, as well as identifying capabilities, gaps and needs 
  • Ownership, preparation and delivery of risk reporting to the company's Committees and the Board, to inform decision-making processes. Including the continued monitoring and assessment of strategic initiatives and operational processes adhere to and remain consistent with the Board’s approved risk appetite and risk profile.
  • Responsible for the coordination of the Quarterly Risk and Compliance Committee meetings and packs.
  • Contributing to the maintenance of an effective governance and infrastructure for the reporting and management of risk incidents.
  • Ongoing monitoring of the regulatory environment in which the company operates, assessing the impact of any changes and determining the appropriate response. 

 Required skills and competencies

  • A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent earned in Risk Management, Business, Accounting, Insurance or Law is expected; an advanced degree is preferred. 
  • At least five years experience in a similar role.
  • Strong understanding of insurance captives, including structures, operations, governance framework and compliance and regulatory reporting requirements for a Class 3B/4 entity
  • Hands on experience of the insurance regulatory regime in Bermuda is required including the BSCR, CISSA, and Bermuda Insurance Code of Conduct for a Class 3B/4 entity.
  • Experience in designing, implementing and evaluating internal controls.
  • Knowledge of information security risks. 
  • Team player with good organisation and planning skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to senior management.
  • Strong IT skills - proficient in the use of the Microsoft suite of products.
