This position reports to the Group Head of Reporting and is responsible for financial reporting and accounting policy in accordance with SEC standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation of SEC reporting and an ability and interest to tackle other accounting projects as assigned. Successful candidates will be detail oriented, drive development and efficiencies, have excellent project management skills, experience in fast-paced environments, an ability to work with various internal departments, an interest in continuous improvement and a drive to grow with the Company.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assisting with the preparation and filing of SEC reporting documents, including Forms 6-K and 20-F, earnings release and financial supplement;
- Preparing supporting information and schedules for all SEC filings;
- Assisting with iXBRL tagging on SEC reporting documents;
- Preparing financial information for the Disclosure, Audit, and other Management Committees, as well as to the Board of Directors and external stakeholders including investors, regulators and rating agencies;
- Assisting with monitoring, research and documentation of new accounting standards including implications on the Company’s operations, controls and financial statements;
- Researching accounting guidance and prepare accounting memos;
- Reviewing filings of the Company’s industry peers for consistency in the application of SEC and accounting guidance;
- Participation in ESG reporting activities;
- Provide support to investor relations during the quarterly earnings review process and preparation for investor conference calls.
- Preparing disclosure checklists;
- Supporting Sarbanes-Oxley (“SOX”) management, including coordinating reviews of process narratives and controls and maintaining current documentation, including coordination with external advisors;
- Liaising with internal and external audit by providing information as requested, responding to queries, ensuring operation of financial reporting controls, and effectively supporting the overall audit processes;
- Assisting with ad hoc accounting projects, as required.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business
- Internationally recognized accounting designation (e.g. CPA, CA)
- Relevant experience with a (re)insurance company or a public accounting firm (big 4 experience preferred)
- Significant knowledge of US GAAP and SEC filings requirements gained in either a public company or Big 4 accounting firm environment.
- Experience with iXBRL reporting is an asset.
- Hands on experience with the requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act;
- Strong computer literacy skills, including advanced Microsoft Excel, Adobe and Word
- Excellent written, verbal and organizational skills plus the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management
- Self-motivated team player with a strong work ethic, analytical skills and attention to detail
- Commitment to meeting deadlines and ability to work overtime and weekends, as required
