PwC is a sponsor of Youthnews - a newspaper for young people, written by young people. Youthnews provides students with an opportunity to hone their skills of observation, as well as their writing and negotiating skills. It gives young people the opportunity to voice their concerns and opinions and allows them to speak openly about the issues that affect them. The newspaper is used as an important teaching tool in all of Bermuda's high schools - both private and government. We are very proud to be a part of this initiative.
Youthnews is distributed bi-weekly as a 16-page supplement in Bermuda's daily newspaper, the Royal Gazette, during the school year. As part of our In the Community program, PwC is a title sponsor of Youthnews and donates funds towards the newspaper's production and development. Youthnews is distributed to all middle and high schools in Bermuda, reaching a cross-section of the island's students.
Through this partnership, PwC sponsored Youthnews' Youth Harvesting Conference "Putting the YOU in University" in September 2010. Over 100 students representing Bermuda's private and public schools attended the two day event.
The conference focused on career education, including college and scholarship searches, application forms, resumes, dress etiquette, essay writing and interview technique. The intention was to supply students with the specific tools that they need to get accepted by a college of their choosing.
Representatives from PwC attended the event and acted as team leaders for a group of students who reported on careers in business, including accountancy and actuarial.
