Championing those who serve others

It’s often the case that the people who come to the Foundation’s People Who Care Fund for assistance are themselves the helpers in their family. That was the situation with a PwC US manager who applied for assistance as she worked to arrange care for her elderly parents as well as her husband who had recently been diagnosed with congestive heart failure and was unable to work. She had leveraged PwC’s leave options and taken time to support her family, putting her project management skills to work on their behalf. But the costs of care were a problem she couldn’t solve on her own.

She said, “This assistance provided us with tremendous relief financially and emotionally during a difficult time. We are so grateful for your support. Thank you for your help through this process.”

The People Who Care Fund was able to help with her husband’s mounting medical bills, which had become too much for the family to manage on their own. A grant gave them some breathing room and let them stay focused on the most important things, getting him as healthy as possible and spending time together as a family.

Making an impact where you work

Comprised of active PwC employees, the Foundation Staff Council collaborates with the Foundation to help innovate around ways of elevating data-driven impact and raise internal and external awareness of the Foundation’s work. As a PwC Foundation Staff Council member, Edward Hill contributes to the Foundation’s mission by channeling his professional skills and commitment to giving back.

Leading the Council’s Innovation & Automation Committee, Edward’s insights and skills have been instrumental in advancing data analysis on hundreds of the Foundation’s Reimagine grants. His leadership supports the development of impactful data visualizations and tools to enhance the Foundation’s approach to reviewing program outcomes. Through his work with the Council over the past two years, Edward integrates his background in impact investing with his passion for societal change.

Celebrating heritage by giving back

The PwC Foundation proudly celebrates the unique backgrounds that shape the PwC community. As part of PwC’s heritage and recognition month celebrations, the Foundation teamed up with the PwC US Inclusion Networks, which play an integral role in fostering PwC’s culture of belonging, to provide over $200,000 in FY24 to organizations leading meaningful change in their communities.

These Inclusion Networks recognize and celebrate the diverse heritage and cultural events within PwC, where our people engage in and celebrate the rich diversity of the PwC people. During these celebrations PwCers can vote for nonprofit organizations, selected by the Inclusion Networks in collaboration with the Foundation, to receive a grant from the Foundation. This initiative exemplifies the ways the Foundation works with stakeholders across PwC to promote inclusion, lift up communities and further strengthen the overall culture of belonging at PwC.

Driving economic advancement through community college support

The PwC Foundation made a $6 million grant to Jobs for the Future (JFF), the largest education grant the Foundation has ever awarded. This grant addresses a critical challenge: the stark underrepresentation of Black and Latino/Hispanic workers in high-wage, high-growth industries. By working with community colleges, JFF aims to dismantle systemic societal obstacles and provide students with the skills, knowledge, and work-based learning opportunities that are essential for economic mobility.

Over a three-year period, the grant will enable JFF to identify and collaborate with a cohort of 10 community colleges, offering direct funding, technical assistance and coaching designed to connect 3,000+ students to paid work opportunities. This work aims to prepare students for meaningful careers and contribute to narrowing the racial wealth gap, fostering inclusive economic growth.

Positively impacting the careers of veterans

The transition from military service to civilian life can come with significant challenges. Some veterans lack a professional network, a resume tailored for civilian careers or the know-how to translate their military skills into the job market.

American Corporate Partners (ACP) is helping change this narrative. With a grant from the PwC Foundation, ACP is providing critical year-long, one-on-one mentorships, assistance in making connections and help building skills and confidence and finding meaningful employment for over 750 participants in its Veterans of Color, Bridge and Active-Duty Military Spouse programs.​ The Foundation's support helps ACP adapt its programming to meet evolving needs among today's veterans.

Additionally, PwCers have actively participated as mentors, leveraging their professional skills to support veterans. To date, more than 130 PwCers have served as mentors for ACP—through an effort that not only honors veteran service but also helps cultivate a stronger, more inclusive community for all.

The Foundation’s grant is part of its broader Veterans Commitment, developed with the PwC Veterans Affinity Network. The effort has contributed more than $26 million since 2015 to support veterans and their families as they move from active duty to civilian careers. These investments are expected to impact more than 400,000 veterans.

Over a decade of collaboration to help students thrive

For over a decade, PwC and the PwC Foundation have worked alongside iMentor to help shape the futures of students through mentorship and career support. More than 600 PwC mentors have contributed an average of 2,000 volunteer hours each year, developing meaningful relationships that can open doors to new opportunities for students. These efforts have helped students build confidence, navigate challenges, and make informed decisions about their academic and career paths.

In 2023, the PwC Foundation awarded iMentor a $2 million grant to develop an innovative curriculum aimed at enhancing career exploration and building social capital. This funding will enable iMentor to deliver forward-thinking programming that aims to equip students with the skills and networks necessary to thrive in an increasingly complex job market. Together, PwC and the PwC Foundation are helping to equip students with the tools to shape their futures and reach their potential, no matter the obstacles they face.

Enabling rapid response in the face of natural disasters

When disaster strikes, the need for food and water can become critical. In these moments, World Central Kitchen (WCK) steps in to provide fresh, hot meals to those in need. With a grant from the PwC Foundation, WCK's rapid response capabilities are being bolstered, supporting the delivery of an estimated 100,000+ meals to reach disaster-impacted communities. This helps to alleviate hunger and can also bring comfort and dignity to those facing an incredibly challenging moment in their life.

Additionally, by collaborating with local restaurants and suppliers, WCK not only provides critical nourishment but also supports local economies, helping to provide a community-focused approach to disaster relief. Donations from PwC employees, partners and principals have furthered WCK's mission, and PwCers have volunteered with the organization, contributing their time on the ground.

Building more resilient communities with Arbor Day Foundation

The Arbor Day Foundation (ADF) envisions a world where trees address issues critical for survival. The PwC Foundation provided a $1 million grant to ADF to help address environmental challenges such as increased urban heat and floods. With this grant, ADF aims to work with local nonprofit organizations to design community tree planting programs in areas that are among the most nature-deprived and socio-economically disadvantaged.

Through the funding, ADF plans to plant and distribute thousands of trees across these communities. By working closely with local organizations and utilizing innovative techniques, these tree plantings aim to beautify the area while contributing to cleaner air and reduced carbon footprint, thereby enhancing community resiliency.

Deepening disaster response work with Team Rubicon

In recent years, the frequency and intensity of natural disasters have surged, often leaving highly vulnerable communities without the resources to recover. Since 2013, PwC US and the PwC Foundation have provided funding to Team Rubicon, helping the organization to bridge this gap, providing essential aid and fostering community resilience.

A new $1.75 million grant from the PwC Foundation to Team Rubicon helps to position the organization to respond swiftly in the face of natural disasters. This critical support helps protect individuals in high-risk communities and address the ongoing need for holistic disaster preparedness and recovery. In 2024, Team Rubicon's rapid and impactful response to Hurricanes Helene and Milton delivered vital support like route clearance and debris removal to affected communities.
