Learning outcomes
This course provides participants with a practical understanding of VAT and Excise Duty obligations in Uganda, focusing on areas where businesses commonly face compliance challenges. It covers the fundamentals of VAT and Excise Duty imposition, registration requirements, and the different regimes that apply to various sectors. Participants will also explore refund opportunities, input VAT computations, and the treatment of blocked items, enabling them to improve accuracy in their monthly and annual tax filings. The programme further addresses important considerations under other VAT regimes, including deferred VAT and deemed VAT.
In addition, the training highlights frequent errors made when filing VAT returns and offers practical guidance on how to avoid them. Participants will also gain insight into typical URA focus areas during audits, as well as recent case law and tax amendments that influence compliance for VAT and Excise Duty. By the end of the course, learners will be better equipped to identify risks, strengthen controls, and manage their indirect tax obligations effectively.
