Learning outcomes
This course provides a comprehensive overview of the key tax compliance obligations that apply to entities operating in the financial services industry, including banks, microfinance institutions, fintechs, and insurance companies. Participants will gain a practical understanding of tax requirements across Income Tax, PAYE, Withholding Tax, VAT, Stamp Duty and Excise Duty, with a focus on how these obligations apply uniquely within the sector. The training will also address common areas of risk, frequent compliance gaps, and the documentation and reporting standards expected by the tax authority.
In addition, the programme highlights recent tax updates and regulatory changes affecting the financial services sector. Participants will explore emerging positions from the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), amendments influencing financial products and insurance contracts, and evolving interpretations that impact day‑to‑day tax operations. By the end of the session, learners will be equipped with the knowledge needed to strengthen compliance processes, reduce exposure to penalties, and enhance overall tax governance within their institutions.
