Island Games 2023: PwC sponsors table tennis team

06 December, 2022

PwC Isle of Man is excited to sponsor the table tennis team representing the Isle of Man in the Island Games 2023. The professional services firm will support travel, accommodation and kit expenses for a full complement of players who will compete alongside 3,000 other participants from across 24 member islands.

To be hosted by Guernsey, the Island Games returns next year after a 2-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic. It will be the first year since 2011 that the Isle of Man sends its largest team of table tennis players to the Games, thanks to the commitment of the Isle of Man Table Tennis Association (IOMTTA) in developing a vibrant table tennis scene over the last ten years.

Chaired by Maggie Mulhern and a volunteer management committee, the IOMTTA has significantly grown player numbers across adult and junior levels by offering regular activities such as the island league and tournaments, weekly community drop-in and coaching sessions, and organising an Isle of Man team to represent and participate in off-Island tournaments.

Maggie Mulhern, Team Manager and Chairman of the Association, added: ‘As off-Island sports competition resumes, 2023 will be a very exciting and memorable year for all involved in the Island Games. We would like to welcome PwC Isle of Man as our Island Games Team Sponsor and thank them for contributing to the development of table tennis on the Island. Their financial support will help to reduce any financial restrictions for players as costs have unfortunately increased since the last Island Games event in Gibraltar 2019.

Squad selection will be announced in 2023 and we imagine those who represent will undoubtedly aim high and look to build on the 2019 team’s performance winning bronze medals in two events. Whatever happens, it will be an incredible experience and achievement.’

PwC Isle of Man is proud to support community initiatives that have a positive impact in people’s lives, and which help to further international awareness of the Island to build its wider relationships.

Paul Jones, Corporate Responsibility Lead at PwC Isle of Man commented: ‘The Island Games is renowned for the rewarding opportunities it affords local sports people, and we’re delighted to be able to fund the team’s involvement to ensure table tennis talent is represented at next year’s festival.’
