Kazakhstan Majilis accepted for consideration the draft Law "On Ratification of the Agreement on the Establishment of the Global Green Growth Institute"

On 20 April 2022 Kazakhstan Mazhilis is considering a draft Law on ratification of the Agreement on the Establishment of the Global Green Grow th Institute (the “Agreement”).

In detail

  • The Agreement stipulates for establishment of an international organization Global Green Grow th Institute (“GGGI”), the main activities of w hich include:
    • support transition-economy countries and developing countries in building their capacity to develop and implement green grow th plans at the national, regional or local level. 
    • conducting research to promote the theory and practice of green grow th, draw ing in particular on the experience of governments and industries. 
    • promoting public-private cooperation in order to create favorable conditions for investment, innovation, production and consumption w ith efficient use of resources, as w ell as the dissemination of best practices. 
    • spreading evidence-based know ledge and raising public aw areness about green grow th and sustainable development. 
  • Upon ratification of the Agreement, Kazakhstan w ould become a full member of GGGI w ith the right to vote at the sessions of the Assembly (the supreme body of GGGI), and also acquire the right to be elected as a member of the Council, the executive body of GGGI. 
  • Kazakhstan's accession to the Agreement will strengthen cooperation in the field of global green grow th with the countries which are members of GGGI.
