PwC Philippines Deals and Corporate Finance Managing Partner Mary Jade T. Roxas-Divinagracia was one of the speakers at Session II of the “ASEAN Roadmap to Successful IP Commercialization in a Knowledge-based Economy” on 2 December. The session, titled “From Lab to Market: A Case Sharing on IP Commercialisation,” discussed the different players in the startup ecosystem and the role they play in driving innovation and using intellectual property (IP) as a business application tool.
Jade discussed the startup ecosystem in the Philippines and how they each function to protect and promote IP and create value. She shared two local cases of IP commercialization journeys and identified the challenges they faced and the factors that led them to succeed. She also proposed solutions on how the local startup ecosystem can thrive and foster innovation and creativity.
Other speakers of the session were Hong Kong Regen Medtech Limited Chairman Mr. Stanley Sy, Alliance of Technology Transfer Professionals Board Member Dr. Alwin Wong, Tilleke & Gibbins International Ltd. Senior Associate and Patent Agent Ms. Peeyakorn Suparugbundit. Hong Kong Baptist University Knowledge Transfer Office Head Ir. Dr. Alfred Tan moderated the session.
The workshop was organized by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Intellectual Property Department and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. It aimed to discuss how IP commercialisation is a key driver of economic growth in a knowledge-based economy.
