Challenges of the 21st century: New Technologies and Corporate Governance


June 15 - 16, Astana hosted the 10th Astana Economic Forum. PwC experts participated in different sessions and held traditional press conference on the results of the fifth annual CEO Survey.

Rahul Gupta, Partner of PwC US, spoke at the special session "Smart and Sustainable Cities of the Future", organized by the UNDP in Kazakhstan. Earlier PwC Kazakhstan participated in the development of the program "Smart Astana", which took into account the world experience and recommendations of the most authoritative experts in the field of creating and analyzing smart cities. In his speech, Rahul Gupta noted that a smart city is impossible without people who care about the city and technically savvy.

Steven Stocks, Partner, PwC UK, was co-moderating the session on corporate governance. Given the urgency of attracting investment in the non-energy sector of the economy of Kazakhstan and the need to strengthen human capital, today the focus of economic development is aimed at corporate governance. Corporate governance is an important mechanism through which the behavior of employees is consistent with the goals and principles of the organization, and corporate goals and values ​​are embodied in decisions and actions of people. Following the session, participants determined the main directions of the development of corporate governance, and developed some recommendations to introduce corporate governance principles and standards in Kazakhstan for the period of 2017-2020.

Within the framework of the Innovation Summit "Adaptation to an Age of Disruption", organized by The Economist, Michal Mazur, Partner, PwC Poland, spoke about the technology of drones. Michal Mazur pointed out that the key to successful technological transformation will be structured and comprehensive implementation of new technologies into business processes. Those who will act in conservative way implementing technology only point-wise without a long-term strategy will stay behind

Amal Larlid, Director, PwC UK, a leading global financial policy consultant, took part in the session "Climate policy and implications for budget planning in Kazakhstan". During the session, experts discussed financial risks and opportunities for green economy transition for Kazakhstan.

The forum gathered more than 4,000 delegates from 83 countries for two days of discussions.
