On 12 July 2021 the Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan approved the Order on the approval of qualification requirements for a licensed type of activity in the field of environmental protection (the “Qualification requirements”). These Qualification Requirements were introduced on the basis of the provisions of the new Environmental Code (the “Code”), which provides for obtaining a license to perform work and provide services in the field of environmental protection.
According to the provisions of the Code, entrepreneurial activity for the performance of work (provision of services) for the processing, neutralization, disposal and (or) destruction of hazardous waste will require a license to perform work and provide services in the field of environmental protection. However, for the performance of these works by entrepreneurs in relation to waste generated in their activities, the requirement for a mandatory license will not apply.
The order provides for the following qualification requirements for the processing, neutralization, disposal and (or) destruction of hazardous waste for individuals and legal entities:
