The Senate approved the draft law aimed to improve information security, informatization and digital assets. The draft law introduces amendments to 10 legal acts, including the Law on banking activities and the Law on insurance activities.

On 16 November 2023 the Senate approved the draft Law “On amendments and additions to certain legislative acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on information security, informatization and digital assets” (the "Draft Law").

The Draft Law aimed to ensure protection of information of state authorities and organisations in microfinance and banking sectors. To achieve this goal, the operational information security center and the unified repository of electronic government has been created. The unified repository would store original codes of software products.

According to changes the personal data operators shall notify the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry on violations of personal data security within one business day from the moment of breach discovery.

The function of monitoring of data protection legislation is assigned to the mentioned authorized body.
