In order to implement the provisions of the Environmental Code of Kazakhstan on public participation in decision-making on environmental issues, a Unified environmental portal has been launched in Kazakhstan.
On July 1, 2021, a new Environmental Code entered into force in Kazakhstan, w hich provides for a number of innovations, including the passage of an environmental impact assessment (EIA) procedure for large enterprises of the first category, as w ell as public participation in all stages of project expertise.
Thus, the new code provides for public hearings at the earliest stages of planning the activities of enterprises, even before the assignment of land plots. Earlier, public hearings at the project development stage w ere held after the allocation of the land plot.
With the introduction of a Unified environmental portal, w here all the projects of developers w ill be published, everyone w ill be able to get acquainted w ith the project and leave their suggestions and comments.
The portal is available at the ecoportal.kz on a 24-hour basis, w ith the exception of w eekends, holidays and technical breaks related to repair w ork.
