PricewaterhouseCoopers Consulting Services Philippines Co. Ltd., a member firm of the PwC network, recently carried out a series of community initiatives under PwC Philippines' “Tourism with a Purpose” program. On 26 July 2025, a total of 220 volunteers engaged in impactful activities around Boracay, demonstrating the firm’s commitment to sustainable tourism and social responsibility.
One team visited Manocmanoc National High School to lead the Food Gardening and Student Empowerment Experience. Organized in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Rotaract Club of Boracay Island, this initiative focused on establishing a sustainable food gardening program. The goal was to equip students with practical agricultural skills while fostering environmental stewardship.
Led by PricewaterhouseCoopers Consulting Services Philippines Co. Ltd. Manager Kevin Morada, 50 volunteers guided students in hands-on gardening activities, teaching them how to prepare soil, plant crops and practice sustainable gardening methods. They also held discussions highlighting the health and ecological benefits of food gardening, inspiring the youth to become advocates for greener communities.
Led by PricewaterhouseCoopers Consulting Services Philippines Co. Ltd. SAP Director James Deri, 52 volunteers joined forces to clean up Bulabog Beach, collecting 20 sacks of waste ranging from plastic bottles and food wrappers to fishing nets and stray shoes.
To add an element of fun and friendly competition, the cleanup was organized as a scavenger hunt, with teams earning points for different types of collected debris. Manager Mervick Barredo, Senior Associate Mary Joy Villas and Associate Anne Marie Rosete emerged as the winners of the challenge.
The activity was made possible with the support of Jayr Villaruel of the Rotary Club of Boracay Island; the Rotaract Clubs of Kalibo and Manila; the Local Government of Boracay; the Department of Agriculture (DA); and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources–City Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-CENRO).
Another group of 43 volunteers reconnected with the children of ATI Village, a community they had engaged with during the previous year. The day featured a heartwarming lineup of activities—including an opening prayer, a welcome song, interactive games, art sessions and storytelling.
The highlight was the distribution of school supplies—such as notebooks, pencils and crayons—to support the students’ learning journey. The event was enriched by inspiring messages from Judilyn Bartolome and Romalyn Supetran from the ATI Village, as well as Nikko Refe, Director, and Mary Anne Isip, Senior Manager.
In another outreach effort, 27 volunteers visited the Boracay Animal Adoption and Rescue Center (BAARC), a shelter for abandoned and neglected animals. The volunteers spent quality time feeding, playing with the dogs and walking them to the beach. They also delivered dog and cat food, veterinary medicines, harnesses, and leashes.
The team was led by PricewaterhouseCoopers Consulting Services Philippines Co. Ltd. Consulting Managing Principal Veronica Bartolome, Senior Manager Norman Pasamonte, Manager Doris Picana and Associate Iana Bernardo.
A group of 20 volunteers headed to Wetland No. 6, a protected conservation area on Boracay Island, to plant mangroves. These plants are vital in shielding coastal communities from storm surges and flooding. Mangroves also provide essential nursery habitats for fish, crabs and other marine species.
Together, the team planted 150 mangrove propagules, contributing to the preservation and restoration of the island’s coastal ecosystem.
With initiatives like these, PwC Philippines continues to demonstrate its commitment to environmental sustainability and community development—aligning purpose-driven tourism with meaningful social impact.
