The theme for this year’s meeting centered on building a strong and resilient assurance practice and team culture that is adaptive to the ever-changing business and regulatory landscape—a topic of growing relevance in the sector amid global shifts in energy policy, sustainability mandates and governance expectations. The meeting brought together around 70 EUR professionals for a day of strategic reflection and forward-looking dialogue.
The event featured a keynote address by Dr. Karlo Queaño, Chief Geologist at the Land Geological Survey Division of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources–Mines and Geosciences Bureau (DENR-MGB). Dr. Queaño provided a comprehensive overview of the policy and strategy direction of the current administration for the local mining industry. He also emphasized a number of initiatives where stronger collaboration with finance and accounting may be initiated, including the review of sustainability measures implemented by mining companies.
A highlight of the meeting was a panel discussion featuring three distinguished independent directors: Tammy Lipana, former Chairperson and Senior Partner of Isla Lipana & Co; Manny Herbosa, former CEO and President of the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP); and Ephyro Amatong, former Commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Rounding out the panel was Aldie Garcia, Vice Chairman and Assurance Managing Partner at Isla Lipana & Co. Drawing from their diverse experiences in corporate governance, finance and public service, the panelists shared valuable perspectives on how organizations can remain agile and resilient in the face of regulatory shifts and stakeholder expectations. The discussion was moderated by Pocholo Domondon, Assurance Partner and EUR Leader at Isla Lipana & Co.
The discussion touched on topics such as board oversight; Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) integration; and the importance of proactive risk management. The participants also engaged in a lively Q&A session.
The meeting also served as a platform to reinforce collaboration across the Assurance Group, aligning teams on strategic priorities for the coming year and reaffirming the firm’s dedication to delivering high-quality assurance services in a dynamic regulatory environment.
