Programme brief

Indirect tax is used by many countries worldwide to generate revenue and minimise tax evasion due to the relative ease of application and wide coverage. Value Added Tax (VAT) as a consumption tax contributed to more than 50% of the indirect tax revenue of the government in 2022 and is expected to grow in subsequent years. It is therefore important for companies to better manage their VAT exposures and navigate any hurdle the tax may present.

This programme expounds on the principles behind VAT, the scope of VAT and VAT compliance requirements.

At the end of this course, participants will:

  • have in-depth knowledge of the VAT regime in Ghana
  • understand the VAT compliance cycle and consequences of non-compliance
  • better handle VAT on cross-border transactions
  • consider planning opportunities to optimise company VAT positions
  • have a good appreciation of recent court rulings and new trends in the consumption tax regime
  • stay informed about changes in the VAT Act and how they affect a business; and
  • share knowledge and experience with colleagues.
