PwC Philippines Risk Assurance Leader and Partner Maria Rosell Gomez and Executive Director Mark Anthony Almodovar were part of the esteemed lineup of moderators at the 2024 CyberSecPhil Conference held on 24–25 January at The Fifth, Rockwell, Makati City. Organized by CybersecAsia and Escom Events, the conference, with the theme “Beyond Borders: Cybersecurity for a Digital Nation,” brought together luminaries of cybersecurity. These leaders delved into the ever-changing cybersecurity landscape, learning and sharing best practices, impactful strategies, and solutions to fortify digital defenses.
For the first day of the conference, Rosell moderated the session on “Navigating the Future: Digital Trust and Cybersecurity in the Era of Advanced Threats'' with panelists Philip Tnee (Head of North and South Asia of KnowBe4), JC Principe (Chief Transformation and Information Officer of FWD), Alexander Antukh (Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) of Aboitiz Power Corporation), Jojo Nufable (Group Head of Enterprise IT Infrastructure & Cyber Security at Metro Pacific Health) and Alexis Bernardino (Chief Cybersecurity Evangelist/Customer Field CISO of PLDT). They discussed the evolving digital threat landscape, exploring how organizations can build digital trust. The prevalent cybersecurity challenges were also raised and the proposed innovative solutions, emphasizing the need for leadership and collaboration as well as a unified response to combat cyber threats.
Mark, on the other hand, has facilitated the session on the second day, titled “Securing the Cloud: Strategies for Safeguarding Sensitive Data.” Panelists include Ronald Gonzales (President, Cloud Security Alliance), Lauro Matias (Vice President of IT, EEI Corporation) and Gabriel Tuason (Head of Information Security, Energy Development Corporation). They gave their views on cloud security challenges, strategies for data protection, and compliance and regulatory considerations. Their dialogue also touched on the complexities of cloud security, noting the increasing threats of data breaches. They looked at strategies for data protection, such as zero-trust principles, stringent access controls, and proactive data measures, as key components in reducing risks associated with cloud data storage.
The 2024 CyberSecPhil Conference was a landmark event, drawing around 350 IT and cybersecurity professionals from various industries such as government, regulatory bodies, industry leadership, and solution providers. It served as a platform to exchange valuable insights and knowledge, further strengthening the local cybersecurity community's collective capacity to navigate the evolving digital landscape.
