Investigations and Forensic Services

Our Africa-based team of forensic accounting specialists understands the legal, financial and reputational risks associated with economic crimes being perpetrated against organisations operating in Africa. These specialists have local country and industry knowledge, investigative experience, and international links to provide services that assist organisations to combat economic crime and to limit the related losses.

These services fall into three main categories:

This will usually involve:

  • Working out what went wrong and how it can be remedied economically
  • Investigating unforeseen losses
  • Securing the important evidence
  • Obtaining information the fraudster hoped to conceal
  • Preparing an objective report of the role of management
  • Conducting interviews with those whose trustworthiness is challenged
  • Reconstructing damaged accounting records

Our asset recovery service will often involve:

  • unravelling complex international money transfers, resulting in the freezing and eventual recovery of such assets
  • "closing the stable door" to minimise the likelihood of further loss
  • preparing concise readable reports, affidavits, and other evidence for use in legal proceedings around the world to recover lost assets
  • assisting with insurance claims
  • identifying potential recoveries from others less directly involved in the fraud such as those who assisted in the laundering of the proceeds.

We have recently conducted asset recovery work for several African governments involving hundreds of millions of dollars and high-level corruption. These have resulted in substantial recoveries and successful prosecutions of wrongdoers
