PwC is a sponsor of PÖFF 2023 and exclusive advisor on legal matters

October 2023

PricewaterhouseCoopers is a sponsor of this year's Black Nights Film Festival (Pimedate Ööde Filmifestival  - PÖFF) by supporting the PÖFF Script Pool program with a financial award and providing filmmakers with tools and skills to operate more effectively. Supporting PÖFF is aligned with PwC's mission to help build trust in society and solve important problems.

In addition to the fact that the festival promises to be another great experience for spectators, PÖFF also offers educational opportunities for professionals and future stars of the motion picture industry. Priit Lätt, a partner of the law firm PwC Legal and an internationally recognised intellectual property attorney, explains in the festival's educational program what movie production contracts must contain to spell out the expectations for all parties, and why it is important to conclude proper contracts. He also discusses the rights of actors and the copyright of works created with the help of artificial intelligence.

"Proper contracts contribute to all parties in the creative process of filmmaking understanding their tasks correctly and setting fair expectations for others. There is also a lot of confusion around artificial intelligence and copyright issues in the theatre and movie circles, which I will help to set straight,” commented Priit Lätt.

Along with the lectures, there will be workshops led by PwC, dealing with real-life examples, which will provide filmmakers with practical knowledge and valuable lessons in concluding contracts and creating partnerships in the motion picture industry. To further inspire and support new talents, PwC has offered a 5,000-euro prize for the best script special award.

PÖFF is one of 15 A-category film festivals accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF), alongside Cannes, Karlovy Vary, San Sebastian, Locarno, Venice, Berlin, Cairo, Mar de Plata, Goa, Tokyo, and others. The aim of the festival is to bring to the local and international audience a complete selection of world cinema art of the last two years, offering fresh and high artistic value film production.

PwC is one of the world's largest business consulting organisations and has been operating in Estonia since 1992.
