Veronika Molatová:
She has been interested in accounting since high school and joined PwC’s financial sector audit team straight after university. Veronika Molatová has been with the company for over two years, including one year in a senior position with her own clients. She enjoys meeting her colleagues not only at the office, but also on joint trips or training courses.
Was PwC your first choice after graduation?
Yes, it was actually my very first interview. I didn’t choose PwC specifically – a friend of mine was doing an internship in IT here and told me to give it a try because I’d always enjoyed accounting. In the end, I got the job, and I’ve been here ever since (laughs).
So, you knew right from the start?
Definitely. Right from the introductory meeting, I was impressed by how smart and natural the managers were. I immediately thought that I could learn a lot from them, which, together with the opportunity for rapid development, were the main reasons why I accepted the offer. Thanks to the diverse range of projects, you get to touch on a lot of topics and see how different companies operate. This gives me an overview across various fields. If I ever decide to go elsewhere, I’ll know what I enjoy most.
How did you start at PwC?
I think in the traditional way – first as an assistant at meetings, where I took notes and performed other tasks assigned by a senior colleague. But from the beginning, I tried to work independently, so after a year I was already managing smaller projects as a senior. Everyone learns on the job, and it’s great that there’s always someone you can turn to for help.
Do you advise others as a senior?
I try to. When a junior asks me a question, I never tell them the question is stupid. At PwC, we believe that no one is born a know-it-all. On the contrary, what pushes others forward is the inspiration they get from more senior colleagues. It’s important to ask questions, take notes, and things will gradually start to make sense. And above all, we help each other. Otherwise, we wouldn’t get anywhere.
What is your team like, specifically?
I really enjoy our age balance – we’re a young team and we get along very well. We also hold a lot of joint events such as after-work parties, quizzes, ski weekends, Christmas parties… This summer, my colleagues and I are going rafting because we’ve become friends over time. It’s the great team that keeps me here the most.
How do you cope with the more demanding periods?
The hardest part is definitely the busy season, especially January and February. Sometimes we have to work weekends or longer days. Of course, we get paid overtime, and when you have a good team around you, you can handle anything.
How do you recharge your batteries outside of work?
I like sports and spending time with friends. Sometimes a weekend trip, water, mountains… I relax best when I’m around people I feel comfortable with. And many of them are my colleagues.
Why would you recommend PwC to someone just starting out?
It’s the ideal start to a career in a smart and diverse environment with opportunities for rapid advancement. And I’ll mention the people again. If I didn’t have such a great team here, I wouldn’t be here anymore. In my opinion, who you work with is what matters the most.
