PwC ensures that its staff gets informed and early detection with the Breast Screen Mobile Unit

Bridgetown, Barbados, 5 October 2017 – PwC in Barbados ensures that its staff do not just walk the walk as they did last Sunday at the Walk for the Cure event, but also receive screening and education by partnering with the Breast Screening Mobile Unit.

Michael Bynoe, PwC East Caribbean Territory Leader, noted that “In Barbados, breast cancer unfortunately, remains the most commonly diagnosed cancer amongst women and it is the number one cause of death from cancer. At PwC, our staff is made up of more than 70% women so we think that it is really important to make sure that our people are given the advantage of early detection and to be further educated.

“By having the mobile breast clinic come to PwC today (October 4), it brought valuable education and care to our women (and men). It’s important that our people know that the leadership is here to support and help increase awareness and educate about screening and treatment programmes with an effort to end this disease with,” he added.

Michelle White-Ying, PwC East Caribbean, Human Capital Leader said “Even though breast cancer incidence rates have been increasing in Barbados, the mortality from breast cancer has remained low and that’s due to early detection, with more treatment options and research.

This is precisely the reason we’re passionate about the power of education and early detection. It’s not always a simple message so we have created an environment during this month and will continue to do so, to ensure that our people have the space where they can be tested and educated and as a result live a longer and healthier life.”

PwC #FAC2017 #FightAgaistCancer2017 campaign continues with a number of events throughout the month of October then continuing into the month of November when the staff and leadership will shift their focus to men’s health issues such as prostate cancer and testicular cancer.
