June 2025 – PwC East Caribbean proudly partnered with the Barbados National Blood Collection Centre and a local ride-share provider, PickUP Barbados in support of World Blood Donor Week 2025 through a week-long blood donation drive. PwC sponsored free rides to and from the Blood Collection Centre, covering over $1300 in fares, with the remaining balance of the $2000 sponsorship being donated directly to the Centre to further support its operations.
The initiative, organised by our Internal Firm Services team’s social group, saw our people giving back to the community in a powerful way, while removing transportation barriers and encouraging the wider community to get involved. We know that donating blood can be a daunting activity, as it takes courage and a willingness to give without expecting anything in return, but our people showed up, not just for the cause but for each other.
Ross Parker, Territory Leader, PwC East Caribbean, said:
“A couple of years ago I got one of those calls many of us have over the years, to donate blood for a dear friend. I was happy to do it and promised myself that I would become a regular donor so those in need would not have to stress about finding donors when their loved ones were in desperate need.
I made that public commitment partly because a goal shared, moves from a good intention to a true goal. But also, to encourage others to do the same. It was great to be contacted by the team at PickUP Barbados to sponsor their Drive to the Bank.
No matter how busy we are, thirty minutes out of a day every few months really is so little when it could save a life.”
This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to our community and supports PwC’s overall sustainability goals, as noted in our FY24 Sustainability Highlights. This initiative builds on the long-standing effort with regular blood donations – an effort from 49 volunteers from our Barbados office donating in the past two years, during six blood donation events. Blood donations are not just a one-off act of service, but they are deeply embedded in our corporate responsibility programme - part of our wider sustainability programme. This particular initiative aims to tackle Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3 – good health and wellbeing, – an area that is critical to a thriving and sustainable future for all.
