PMI’s Project Management Professional (PMP) is a globally recognised professional certification for project managers issued by the Project Management Institute – PMI (www.pmi.org). PMI is the world’s leading not-for-profit membership association for the project management profession, with more than 600,000 members and credential holders in more than 185 countries.
The PMP is a professional qualification for people with experience and knowledge in project management who are looking to solidify and certify their skills with this globally recognised certification.
To apply for the PMP, you need to have either:
A four-year degree (bachelor’s or the global equivalent) and at least three years of project management experience, with 4,500 hours of leading and directing projects and 35 hours of project management education.
A secondary diploma (high school or the global equivalent) with at least five years of project management experience, with 7,500 hours of leading and directing projects and 35 hours of project management education.

There are two types of PMP exams: paper-based and computer-based exams. Both paper and computer-based exams are scheduled by the PMI and dates are communicated to candidates.
