In brief
It was published the legal regime for exemption and simplification of procedures for granting tourist visas, approved by Presidential Decree no. 183/23 of 29 September.
The diploma applies exclusively to the regularisation on the granting of tourist visas and introduces the following changes, among others:
Reduction of requirements in the tourist visa simplification regime, being now limited to the presentation of a passport valid for more than 6 months, round-trip ticket, and international vaccination card;
Tourist visa applications, under the simplification regime, are requested on the Migration and Foreigners Service Portal and cannot be decided within a period of more than 3 days;
Elimination of the reciprocity regime for tourist visa exemptions;
The countries that, in the previous regime, were subject to the tourist visa simplification regime, are now subject to the visa exemption regime, with the exception of the Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe, the Republic of Zambia, the Republic of Swaziland, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela , Republic of Iceland and Republic of Timor-Leste;
The diploma also extended the exemption regime to Caribbean and Pacific countries;
The remaining countries that are not included in the diploma under the exemption regime, will be subject to the simplification regime;
International agreements, protocols and commitment treaties on this matter are not affected by the diploma.
The diploma entered into force on the date of its publication.
