Namibia’s emerging oil and gas (“O&G”) discoveries have placed the country at the center of regional and global energy discussions. As exploration and development accelerate, understanding the tax implications in this sector has never been more critical. 

This session will provide you with the tools and insights needed to navigate the intricate landscape of extractive sector taxation effectively and responsibly.

What to expect:

  • High level overview of the income tax regime applicable to the O&G (with focus on both O&G and service companies) and mining industries. This will specifically include: 
  • Limitation on the carry forward of tax losses;

  • Fixed limitation on interest deductions; 

  • Withholding tax considerations; and

  • Tax incentives available to industries.

  • Brief discussion of the Petroleum Taxation Act 3 of 1991 and its application to the O&G industry;
  • Considerations for mining industry when generating “other” income;
  • VAT, Import VAT and customs considerations for the O&G industry.
  • High level overview of foreign exchange control regulations in Namibia; and
  • High level discussion of Local content requirements and the National Equitable Economic Empowerment Bill
