PayWell 2019: The gross wages in companies from the Republic of Moldova increased by an average of 6.4% this year

11 Nov 2019

The gross wages in companies from the Republic of Moldova increased by an average of 6.4% in 2019, according to PayWell Moldova 2019 survey, conducted by PwC. The salary increase reported for 2019 is slightly below the level of 6.82% estimated for this year by the respondent companies.

”Employers from the Republic of Moldova, both from the private and public sector, face the same problem as throughout Eastern Europe, labor migration, especially of young people who want higher wages and Western standards of living. In this context, Moldova needs sustained long-term economic growth to recover from the gaps and to become attractive to its citizens. The Gross Domestic Product increase of 4% registered in 2018 and of 3.4% estimated for this year by the World Bank is insufficient to reach the level of developed states. Hence, the authorities and companies must work together to identify the best model for economic growth”, said Ionuț Simion, Country Managing Partner PwC Romania and the Republic of Moldova.

Wage increases above the market average, but also above the expected levels, were achieved in 2019 in the IT sector, by 9.63%. The FMCG & Industry, Pharmaceutical and Telecom sectors reported increases below the market average, by 4.48%, 5.65% and 4.97% respectively.

In terms of staff categories, the highest increases were among specialists 6.75%, enabling staff 6.36% and operators/blue collar 6,09%. At the opposite pole, with 6.06%, is the management.

In terms of benefits, the top ten granted by companies to all employees are team buildings, coffee and/or refreshments, entertainment, medical insurance, foreign language / lifestyle, mobile communication, discounts for company products, flex time, special ocasion bonus, loans for employees at special rates.

For 2020, companies in Moldova are estimating an average gross wage increase of 7,22%.  The largest wage increases in 2020 are estimated for IT 8.71%, FMCG and industry 6.21%, the pharmaceutical sector 5.3% and telecom 5%.
