September 2016

The Brazilian Securities Exchange Commission (CVM) on August 30, 2016, issued Instruction 578 (IN 578), establishing new regulatory rules for Brazilian private equity investment funds (Fundo de Investimento em Participações or FIPs).

In general, FIPs that meet certain requirements may serve as an efficient vehicle for foreign investors, both with respect to income distributions and to capital gains realized from the sale of underlying investments or fund units.
