Director, PwC US
Seigo Sugiyama is a Tax Director on our Japan Tax Desk in New York. He has been assigned from PwC Tax Japan. Prior to the assignment since July 2017, Seigo had worked with PwC Japan for more than 12 years, providing various tax services from tax compliance to tax structuring/tax due diligence. He advises foreign multinational groups or investment funds with their inbound investments in Japan, as well as Japan-based multinational companies, especially financial institutions with global operations, with the Japanese income tax impacts of cross-border restructuring projects.
Seigo has experience in providing Japan tax advisory services to multinational financial institution, private equity and its various portfolio companies, aircraft leasing industries and real estate investment industries. He has been involved in various tax due diligence and structuring projects for the acquisition of companies engaged in financial services, manufacturing, restaurant-chain operator, sales and distribution, advertising, etc. in Japan.
During his time with PwC Tax Japan, Seigo was on a secondment to the Financial Services Agency of the Japanese Government from July 2012 to June 2015, where he was involved in reforms of the Japanese tax laws related to international taxation, real estate investments, financial products and general corporate and consumption tax matters.
Seigo obtained his Bachelor of Economic degree from Keio University. In addition, he is a Japanese Certified Public Accountant and Japanese Licensed Tax Advisor.
