PwC supports the AICPA’s efforts to adopt ethics standards that enhance the role of AICPA members in protecting the public interest. The proposed rules would require them to take certain actions if, in the course of providing a professional service, they encounter or are made aware of non-compliance or suspected non-compliance with laws and regulations (NOCLAR). However, PwC recommends that the AICPA adopt the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants’ more practical approach of differentiating the requirements for members who perform audits of financial statements and those that provide other services. PwC believes members in public practice who perform other services should be held to a more limited response requirement.
