Lisa graduated from NYU in 1989 and started working for PwC in the New York office. She transferred to Dallas in 1993. Beginning in 1996, Lisa worked on a FWA for seven years and was made partner while on FWA. Three years later, she moved to Charlotte. Recently, she took on an Assurance Diversity Leader role.
Q: How have you taken advantage of PwC’s flexibility?
A: From the time I was a first year manager and when my first child was born, all the way up until I was made partner, I had a flexible working arrangement. It was absolutely crucial to my professional progress that I manage my personal life as well. I think the fact that I made Partner while on a seven year flexible working arrangement is a testament to PwC’s support and understanding.
Q: Describe your role as Assurance Diversity Leader.
A: It began with my position as Market Team Leader in 2009, my first internal leadership role which I still hold, which helped me learn a lot more about the firm’s strategic and operational priorities. The Assurance Diversity Leader role is fairly new, only a couple months old, but it is a national leadership role. It has helped me develop personally but is rewarding in the sense that I can make a difference at the firm.
Q: What would be your career advice to students?
A: I always tell people to take advantage of opportunities, even when they don’t seem to be the best opportunities because there is learning to be had in everything that you do. The other thing that I tell people is to be flexible and agile, which goes hand in hand with taking advantage of opportunities. Your environment will constantly change, and it’s important to be able to adapt.
