About Emily

Senior Manager, Assurance

Emily learned about the Risk Assurance practice when she was going through interviews her last semester at the University of Kentucky. She liked the idea of going into a more technology-focused line of work and she knew that Risk Assurance had the growth potential she was looking for. And what better place to start a techy career than the west coast? Emily visited Seattle a few times growing up and always loved that part of the country and applied for the position in Seattle. It was something totally different than where she was from - different weather, different culture, and different time zone!

  • 2013 Traveled to Tallinn, Estonia for the first time with her Internal Audit client
  • 2012 As Project Leader for the Seattle market, lead the 2012 Challenge Assurance team to national victory in New York City
  • 2011 Worked as an IT auditor in the Risk Assurance team and developed a passion for people & recruiting
  • 2011 Drove 2500 miles from the University of Kentucky to the Emerald City, and never looked back
  • 2008 Became an Accounting major


Q: What experiences had the biggest impact on your career development?

A: It’s those tough situations that really shape you. The challenging stakeholder, the tight deadline, the tough news you have to deliver to a client. Those experiences give you the opportunity to leverage your strengths and also find out where you may need to develop your skills.

Q: Has your career grown in any unexpected ways at PwC?

A: Absolutely! When I started at PwC, I had few expectations going in. I never anticipated having so many chances to lead and foster change the way that I have. I’ve been able to really tailor my career, with both my client-facing work as well as internal projects within my Risk Assurance team, which I didn’t think possible. It’s fascinating to me how easy it has been to build my career and my reputation even in just my first few years with the firm.

Q: How have you grown as a leader in your career at PwC?

A: I’ve had so many opportunities to lead since I joined the firm. Last year, I led the University of Washington Challenge Assurance case study games, which was completely outside the scope of my normal job duties but it was such a fun experience. I’ve also had a lot of opportunities to coach other team members on different engagements. And that’s sparked a growing passion for me to teach and be a leader in my market for training and enhancing the experience of our interns and new associates. Just this past year, that passion has led me as far as helping our Learning & Development team update course curriculum for Risk Assurance trainings and getting the opportunity to teach my first new-hire training this summer.
