Roosevelt began at PwC as an intern in 2005. During his time at the firm he has worked on various international projects in countries such as Portugal and Chile, which allowed him to showcase his multi-lingual abilities. Roosevelt has also had the chance to do a tour at the National Office and has recently been promoted to Manager.
Q: One of your career goals has always been about having opportunities to work abroad, correct?
A: Yes, I speak Spanish and Portuguese so I expressed an interest very early on at PwC that I wanted to travel to South America or Europe. I received that opportunity in 2011. There was one project where the manager was looking for somebody who spoke Portuguese and he asked if I was interested and within a couple of weeks I was in Brazil.
Q: Did your success on this project lead to other opportunities to travel abroad?
A: It did. A similar project came up but this time it was in Santiago, Chile. It was even more of a challenge because my Spanish is not as strong as my Portuguese.
Q: How has working on these international projects expanded your network?
A: It’s very interesting because I’ve crossed paths with people that I met in Brazil and Chile so we’ve been able to stay in touch. For example, one person I was working closely with on the client side in Chile will soon move to the States. Because of our professional relationship, I’ve been able to help him and give advice about his move.
Q: You took a third international project in Lisbon, correct?
A: This project was similar to my other international projects, so I felt even more comfortable managing it. I had the opportunity to manage everything from handling logistics to leading day-to-day activities. I’m really grateful for these opportunities because it has really broadened my mindset.
Q: What do you like to do in your spare time when you aren’t at the office or traveling the world?
A: I am extremely passionate about Brazilian jiu-jitsu. If you’re not familiar with it, it’s very similar to judo. My brother owns an academy, so when I leave work, I go and train with him.
