PwC Singapore’s food trust team collaborated with Food Industry Asia (FIA) to host a lunch time event on the 7th of December, 2016.
Led by PwC’s Southeast Asia Food Trust Leader, Julia Leong, the event gathered over 60 attendees from across the globe and companies engaging in a variety of food related businesses. With tackling food fraud an increasingly a priority for the food industry, the session had PwC Singapore facilitate a holistic conversation around food fraud. Representatives from the private sector were also brought in to present their views and to share their thoughts through the panel session.

Trust is important for the success and survival for food companies globally, especially with globalisation – where the interconnectedness can cause negligence on one end to be echoed into a bigger issue on the other end. With food scandals becoming commonplace in the recent years and increasing consumer consciousness, PwC Singapore emphasised the importance of food trust to industry players across the region at the Philippines Chamber of Food Manufacturers, specifically on the topic of food fraud.

We take pride in the safety and quality of our food supply systems with Singapore ranking 2nd on the Global Food Security Index, but that does not mean we can afford to be complacent as local food scandals continue to dominate headlines every now and then. Rather, there exists abundance of opportunities for the local food industry to exploit if we tap on our national reputation to push international standards.
