PwC 24th Annual Global CEO Survey Launch Event

What are leading chief executives saying about the year ahead?

Replay the PwC's 24th CEO Survey launch event where the Global Chairman, Bob Moritz, along with other global business leaders unveiled and discussed the perspectives from over 5,000 CEOs on the global trends shaping 2021.

Three quarters of CEOs predict a return to growth in 2021

One year after COVID-19 was declared a pandemic, CEOs are voicing record levels of optimism in the global economic recovery, with 76% of global business leaders predicting that economic growth will improve in 2021

The figures come from PwC’s 24th Annual Global CEO Survey, which this year polled 5,050 CEOs in 100 countries and territories over January and February 2021

  • The US extends its lead over China as the top growth destination in the eyes of CEOs
  • Pandemics, increasing risks posed by cyber threats, over regulation, policy uncertainty, uncertain economic growth, climate change and misinformation are among the top 10 economic growth risks
  • Given uncertainty over the pace of the recovery, CEOs are continuing to primarily rely on cost cutting to drive growth and are also investing more to seek operational efficiencies
  • CEOs in Africa are more concerned about cyber risks (54%) compared to pandemics.

We see very similar trends and expectations from local CEOs as the Mauritius economy is expected to rebound in 2021, with the global recovery. However, this second lockdown has dampened confidence levels and will impact on the speed of recovery. Whilst the pandemic and cyber threats remain key concerns, the reopening of our frontiers is top of the agenda and is a specific issue for Mauritius.
