TOKYO, 26 November 2015 – PricewaterhouseCoopers Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, Representative Directors: Akira Kashima and Yasuharu Suzuki) announced today that Dr. Bindu N. Lohani, a former vice president of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), will join the Cities Solution Research Alliance, which the firm serves as secretariat, as a special advisor as of 1 December 2015. The representative co-founders of the Cities Solution Research Alliance are Dr. Noboru Harata, Professor of Urban Engineering, at the School of Engineering of the University of Tokyo, and Yumiko Noda, Partner, Public-Private Partnership & Infrastructure, PricewaterhouseCoopers Co., Ltd.

Dr. Lohani held several key positions during his nearly 25 years with the ADB through the end of June this year. They included being Vice President for Knowledge Management and Sustainable Development, Vice President (Finance and Administration), and Special Advisor to the President on Clean Energy, Climate Change and Environment. Before joining the ADB, Dr. Lohani worked for the Government of Nepal and was Division Chairman of the Environmental Engineering Program at the Asian Institute of Technology in Bangkok.

The Cities Solution Research Alliance was formed in January this year to serve as a hub for aggregating knowledge on the intersection of government, industry and academia. Its mission is to construct an export model from the perspective of providing urban infrastructure solutions and helping strengthen Japan’s urban competitiveness. Around 30 of Japan’s leading businesses, central and regional government organizations, and urban infrastructure research institutes are members of the alliance. Dr. Lohani will draw on his extensive experience and knowledge in Asia to advise the alliance as a special advisor.

Welcoming the appointment of Dr. Lohani, Ms. Noda said, “The Cities Solution Research Alliance was established to offer Japanese urban infrastructure solutions amid a wave of urbanization throughout Asia and around the globe. It is very reassuring to secure Dr. Lohani’s support for the alliance’s stance and vision. We look forward to his contributions in light of his expertise in urbanization around Asia. His advice will help Japanese central and municipal governments and businesses connect their knowhow of urban infrastructure development to global needs and accelerate the alliance’s efforts domestically and around the world.”
